I had a dress in the 7th grade that was basically a high-waisted skirt with a boxy crop top layered over it, in a cotton print, made to look like denim. It was the coolest thing I owned and I wore it every chance I got, often with high tops. To this day, I think I'm still a little bit enamored with that silhouette.
Over the years, I have come to terms that I can't always pull off the straight-cut, minimalist pieces that I so often covet. Having an hourglass shape can sometimes limit - especially when it comes to the more boy-cut pieces that I find so unbearably chic. But an hourglass shape can also be a lot of fun to play with. I love the idea of a silhouette that accentuates your figure while allowing for you to still be comfortable, and a loose top paired a fitted waist and flirty skirt will practically create an hourglass for you.
I think understanding and then embracing your figure, no matter what it is, is one of the biggest steps towards sartorial freedom. You may learn that certain things you love don't quite work on you, but you might also find a few new things that will blow your horizon wide open.
Have a great weekend!
